3 Things I Wish I’d Known Before Starting My Business (So You Don’t Have to Learn the Hard Way)
Twelve years ago, I jumped into entrepreneurship with a heart full of passion and a head full of…well, way too many thoughts. If I could go back and give my past self a pep talk, here are the three biggest things I’d tell her—so you can skip the unnecessary stress and move forward with more ease in your own business.
1. Procrastination is Fear in Disguise
I used to tell myself I was “waiting for the right time” or “just tweaking a few things” before launching an offer. The truth? I was scared. Scared it wasn’t perfect, scared no one would buy, scared of failing (or weirdly, succeeding). What I’ve learned is this: clarity comes from action, not overthinking. Your business will evolve, but it can’t grow if you don’t start.
💡 Your Move: If you’re hesitating on launching, posting, or putting yourself out there—set a deadline and do it. Messy action beats perfection every time.
2. Overthinking Kills Momentum
I spent way too much time analyzing every decision, trying to make the “right” choice. Should I price my offer at $297 or $299? Should my brand colors be teal or navy? Spoiler alert: none of those tiny details actually made or broke my business. What really mattered was showing up, learning from experience, and adjusting along the way.
💡 Your Move: If you’re stuck in decision paralysis, ask yourself: “Will this matter a year from now?” If not, make a choice and move forward.
3. Self-Doubt is a Liar
I wasted so much time questioning if I was “good enough” to coach, charge for my services, or even call myself an entrepreneur. What I know now? The only difference between a successful business owner and one who quits is that the successful one keeps going despite the doubt. Confidence isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you build by doing the thing, even when it feels scary.
💡 Your Move: Whenever self-doubt creeps in, remind yourself: If I wasn’t meant to do this, I wouldn’t feel so called to it. Your voice, your work, and your business matter. Period.
Starting a business is a wild, beautiful, messy ride. But if you can recognize fear for what it is, make decisions faster, and trust that you’re capable—you’ll get where you want to go so much faster.
