Pivot.
The word of the COVID19 era. As businesses and entrepreneurs look at what’s next, it’s inevitable to run into the buzz word of the pandemic.
What does Pivot mean to you and your business? We have to be thoughtful, and nimble, as we consider the best next steps for moving forward and thriving in whatever the “new normal” will be when it comes to business.
I’ve gotten to thinking during the times (Lord knows there is more time for that these days!) about what this means for me in my own business and how my desire to “pivot” will affect my clients. I am approaching my business even more deeply from a place of real service. It’s important right now to really focus on helping each other because, as we’ve heard in a number of places, “We’re all in this together.”
So, I’ve come up with my own definition of what “Pivot” means to businesses facing the challenges of gearing up for a “new normal” that is most certainly, uncertain.
P.I.V.O.T. in my own terms
P
P stands for plan. Now more than ever, you have to come up with a few things to accomplish in order to be ready for what is coming next. I have been consulting my clients to work on structure and systems- to give their businesses a tune-up in the logistics department as they ready for the next chapter. This could include looking at the way you manage information, in particular, communications. I am also asking clients to dig deep and pull together meaningful content to drip out over time, so that when they’re back to a fuller speed, their content generation continues without a hiccup. Plus, right now, people are actually starved for good content they can resonate with.
I
I stands for innovate. It’s time to evolve your approach to business, or even the business itself. If you’ve hesitated in presenting a business based in your own authentic values system, now is the time to take that step. Gone are the walls that separate a personal and professional life. We’ve done too many Zoom meetings now to fake formality. We can up level our commitment to ourselves as humans and integrate more of ourselves into how we show up in business. Moving forward, I think it’s going to be a very interesting time watching conscious businesses unfold. If you don’t consider yourself a conscious business, that’s more than ok. Just be yourself and shine your light bright. Innovation- new products or services are also great ways to evolve.
V
V is for vision. Having a new vision for your business pairs well with innovation. Re-examine your “Why” and start letting a new vision take shape. You might be surprised when you set your mouthy brain aside and let your heart lead the way. A vision based in your heart space is a vision you can really get behind and make happen. You can define your “new normal” in ways you might not have ventured into before.
O
O is for overcome. Don’t give up. Now is not the time to give up on yourself or your business. Marketing remains a key component to successfully navigating the shifts in our business. Do a scrub of your messaging- make sure you’re putting out the messages that are meaningful for you and help shorten the buying cycle of your target audiences. Do a little something on your business every day to help feel like you’re getting stuff done. Write a love letter to yourself set 10 years from now and thank the present-day you for taking brave steps to overcome the fear that this pandemic has wrought. You can totally do this. One day, one step at a time.
T
Thrive. Thrive. Thrive. The last letter of the word, pivot, is all about success, baby. What does success look like for you? How do you define it? Part of your vision process can include a little attention on what everything looks like on the other side of this chaotic time. Include money goals, personal goals, what will make you smile, how you want to help people, and so much more. Your ability to thrive is still there although the rules have changed. Stay true to you and your vision to thrive.
