Where do your target audiences hang out online?

Last week we looked at the very beginnings of developing a buyer persona or an audience profile. Once you have that in hand, in detail mind you, it’s time to determine where they are hanging out- in particular, on Social Media.

Yes, yes, I know some of you are cringing right now as you think about the effort it might take to manage and contribute to any number of social media channels out there on the interwebs.

Stop obsessing and get specific!

Let’s take a quick and easy look at a target customer for a baby shampoo company. Obviously, the first audience that comes to mind are parents, in particular, moms. Diving deeper, where do most moms look for information on the internet? From other parents for certain- so that might mean Facebook groups or pages. It might also mean baby blogs or online parenting magazines.

One thing we know for sure is they want the best for their baby, but they don’t have a lot of time, so the information they do find needs to be digestible and reputable. Sound reasonable? Ok!

So, if the audience is a new mom, they might be most likely to trust the opinions of other moms and find info they can trust on a private Facebook group or public page on the topic at hand- moms and babies.

Be the expert they need

Your job, as a business owner, is to join the group possibly and/or advertise on site. This will depend on permissions and such as per the group or page. The most important thing here is to only offer compelling content and don’t try to sell. A target audience like moms is looking to trust people before jumping in and buying. So- that said, you might position yourself as an expert in the field and offer advice.

Be consistent. Be kind. Be an expert!
